On the farm
Activities on the farm allow you to relax and make the most of the scenery and enjoy the splendour of nature in the mountains.
Guests are free to walk on the farm and there are marked trails to the waterfall, the gorge and stone cottage. Walks are between 1 and 3 hours in duration and GPS details and directions are available from Ruth or Paul. During your walk you may be lucky and spot reedbuck, oribi or duikers as well as a variety of birdlife and lots of wildflowers during spring and summer. Endangered wattled cranes can frequently be seen in the wetlands. For those keen on trout fishing, Heronmoor has a well stocked dam.
There is a designated picnic spot at the stone cottage, and guests may also make use of the braai facilities in the ruined stone house. You may also use your mountain bikes on any of the farm tracks or the quiet roads in the area, which provide some challenging climbs for experienced bikers, and our meditation and yoga room in the conference centre is also open to guests.
Well known Midlands photographer Karen Edwards has a studio in the conference centre and offers family photo shoots on site – contact Karen on 082 441 7429.

The Kamberg is renowned for its fly fishing and there are day fishing venues close by. Horse trails are available nearby and the Hlatikulu Crane Sanctuary is worth a visit. As we are situated at the pivot of the Drakensberg escarpment, we are perfectly positioned for day excursions to Sani Pass and Lower Loteni in the southern berg and Injasuthi or Monks Cowl in the Central berg. The nearby entrances to the Drakenberg within 30 minutes of the farm are Kamberg, Highmoor and Giant’s Castle and all have a selection of day walks. Our area contains some of the best preserved rock art sites and a visit to Kamberg Rock Art centre and Game Pass Shelter is a must. Giant’s Castle also offers rock art viewing at the Main Caves. Highmoor has some large fishing dams and wonderful wildflowers in summer. Ruth knows the berg very well so contact her for advice.
Day excursions are also possible to Weenen Game reserve and the Battlefields for the not so active.
The Midlands Meander also makes an interesting day trip with various arts, crafts and local wines and
organic foodstuff.
